There are several steps involved in becoming a new client at TCMH.  TCMH does not believe in a one size fits all approach to therapy and strives to ensure all potential clients are getting the best help possible, even if that means it is not at TCMH. Below are the steps involved:

  1. Coordinating with the office manager and providing her with your insurance information, availability and general information regarding what you are seeking services for.
  2. The office manager will then consult with the therapists to determine if we are the best fit for you.
  3. If we believe we can help: The office manager will contact you with options for appointments and will obtain additional demographic and insurance information. You will then receive a link in your email to complete all intake paperwork through our secure online portal.
  4. If we believe we are not a good fit: The office manager will contact you with information regarding other providers in the area who are more likely to meet your needs.

You will be greeted by the office manager, who will ask for a copy of your insurance card and ID to add to your file. You will be offered a beverage and/or snack while you wait for your appointment. Once your therapist is available, she will greet you and show you to her office.

Your appointment will typically be 60 minutes long and during this time you will discuss additional background information about who you are and what brings you to therapy. If the client is an adolescent, this appointment can be done with or without the parent. Oftentimes, parents are present for the beginning of the appointment and then the parent will step out and allow the adolescent to continue the rest of the appointment individually. Parents are welcome to sit in on the entire appointment if the family requests and this is appropriate.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply want support in making positive life changes, therapy can help. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit - therapy is a space for growth, healing, and self-discovery.

Therapy helps because it:

  • Provides emotional validation (you feel heard and understood).
  • Offers insight into why you think and feel the way you do.
  • Teaches skills to manage anxiety, depression, and stress.
  • Builds resilience and self-awareness.
  • Strengthens relationships and communication.
  • Creates hope and motivation for change.

The relationship itself — the trust, empathy, and connection with the therapist — is often one of the
most healing parts.

It depends on your needs. Some people benefit from short-term therapy (a few weeks or months), while others find value in longer-term work. You and your therapist will regularly review progress and decide together.

Yes. Online or telehealth sessions are now common and effective. You can connect via secure video calls from the comfort of your home.

You might feel relieved, emotional, or tired after sessions. Therapy can bring up deep feelings, but over time it usually leads to greater understanding, healing, and peace.

That’s okay — it’s important to find someone who feels like the right fit. You can respectfully let your therapist know how you feel and work it out or they can help you look for another professional. Your comfort and ability to develop a trusting relationship with your therapist is most important. We will facilitate that in any way possible.
