Couples Therapy

What is Couples Therapy?

Couples Therapy is a psychotherapy that aims at helping individuals in a romantic relationship gain insight into their relationship, resolve any existing conflict and to feel more connected to your partner. Rather than placing blame, Couples Therapy is solution focused and identifies ways you can better communicate and understand each other so that you can have a healthier, meaningful relationship.

How Does Couples Therapy Work?

A trained therapist will meet with the couple to identify the presenting problems and gather background information as individuals and as partners. By having this knowledge, the therapist can understand the full story and assist you in developing specific goals to work on in treatment. Together, you will work on improving the skills needed that will benefit your relationship. These skills may include, communication, improving patience and forgiveness, developing trust and honesty, and learning new ways to manage your stress. A major part of Couples Therapy is the work that is done outside of therapy. Your therapist will give you homework to complete so that you can begin to utilize these new skills in your everyday life.

How Long is Treatment?

The length and frequency of treatment depends on the needs of the couple and can range
anywhere from 4 to 6 months, attending 60 minute sessions, weekly or bi-weekly.
